How much is the average Thai salary per month?

Thai people are typically paid by the month regardless of their occupation, it may be calculated by the hour but typically the average Thai salary is paid by the month. If your thinking about hiring someone in Thailand I strongly urge you not to do this though. Pay someone for a months work here and they will take 6-7 days off during that month. Pay them by the day and for a days work and they will show up every day without fail.

So what does the average Thai person make per month? Their salary may differ by industry and occupation and where they live in the country. I've heard people talk about GDP and that the average Thai person will earn 25,000 per month which is so not true, maybe as a mean but certainly not for the regular joe.

In Thailand, Education Rules! Your monthly salary will depend on the qualifications you have as well as experience and age. The salary depends more on age and qualifications than on experience unless you have been with a company for a long time, this is for well paying jobs like a degree qualified job such as IT.

As for the lower end such as farming and manufacturing the pay is very low, industry average for manufacturing and labour jobs are typicaly 6000-8000 baht per month. And if you live upcountry away from big cities even if you have a degree depending on your job your unlikely to make more than 10,000 baht per month. My previous post on how to live in Thailand on 300 baht a day will show you how these people can get by on so little.
What is the average thai salary

What is the average thai salary

With monthly Thai salaries being so low you wonder how so many people can buy a car even luxury cars. In all honesty even if you have a degree in Thailand doesn't mean your capable, the ones who do really well here do really well, I know many multimillionairs in Thailand that didn't finish grade 9 and are doing extremely well, and this is mostly because everyone else lacks what it takes.

If your in a well paying position in a degree qualified job the average wage is around 25,000 per month. This is almost 4 times as much as a non qualified job, so if that person still lives with their family and still lives and eats cheaply by the time their 26 they can own their own car, for someone who works in a really good paying job like let's say Data Warehousing consultant their salary can be over 80,000 per month, by the time their 26 they can own outright a mercedes CLK! Very much the same as back home really.

Basically like everywhere the average Thai salary all depends on what you do and what is your degree.

Man, your grammar sucks dude. It’s shocking. Are you sure English is your native language? Maybe you did not graduate grade 9 as well!

    If your in a -> If you’re in a
    time their 26 – time they’re 26

etc. Not once, but many times in this article. I think these are grade 5 errors!

    • Chris July 22, 2014 at 8:28 pm #

So ive heard. Id rather just talk in a podcast or something similar but google doesnt work like that.

what does grammer have to do with understanding the subject talked about..basically you can be an educated asshole versus a person with an education and can articulate what they are saying for you to understand…listen up learn something and don’t preach teacher david rimping…

      • Vic March 26, 2017 at 4:38 pm #

        Haha,good job.

lol wtf, why are you trying to be a grammar police, are you as stupid as a donkey or have an IQ of a rock?

because i’m no fucking Einstein and i had no problem understanding everything he was trying to comprehend.

      • Antony Pincombe June 29, 2016 at 8:36 am #

No he doesn’t comprehend to you, you comprehend. He imparts his knowledge and it is up to you to comprehend what he is articulating. Not that the articulation was without it’s problems as has been pointed out.

The other thing I would like to know is a Thai person taking 6-7 days off per month, does that include rostered days off or are those days separate to the RDO’s? Because if there are no RDO’s and you expect them to work 7 days/week, 52 weeks/year then you are breaking the UN Convention on work/home balance and employer OHS requirements. By the way the writer forgot to mention Thai’s always take public holidays off if they do not work for themselves.

Well then this idiots pipes up, there always has to be one pedantic, total f*** ass hole. And you are the winner David Dumpling.

Why do people like you just have to try and be smart? Critising a guys grammar or spelling. Are you so sexually inadequate, challenged in the penis dept living at home with your Mum, or something?

Go pick a fight in a bar with some big hard as nails f***er whoes English is nt too good. Lol

    • Grace May 9, 2018 at 7:42 am #

Looks like Googles spellcheck was doing its usual thing to me. I spend more time correcting what google corrects than it’s worth!!

    • Alan June 16, 2018 at 3:12 pm #

Was a good read, never even noticed the grammar. And David your obv not English . So stop preaching on how people should rite, right, Wright, write English 🙂

  2. ROGER March 18, 2015 at 12:25 am #

What’s David’s monthly income ? I mean when he puts down the bag of Cheetos, turns off his computer link to pontificating and judging people that he could never look at eye to eye, and drags his rotting corpse up out of his mom’s basement. I’m sure that this sentence ran more than you have since they invented Grand Theft Auto. Get some exercise dude and get some of that puke out of you.
I’m sure your mom spends more keeping you in junk food than the average Thai makes.

  3. SGGUY March 31, 2015 at 9:26 am #

This is so little. I know the girls that come work in Singapore as coyotes can make 100,000-200,000 Baht in a month, more if they sleep around.

  4. Mac May 26, 2015 at 8:45 pm #

It is more important to communicate and I think it offensive for someone to criticize another person’s grammar, when they are just trying to be helpful. There is no need for swearing either. There are enough words in the English language for someone to add emphasis to what they are saying, without resorting to expletives. My thanks to the author of the article. Thank you for your endeavour.

Listen up now people. I am an authentic English gent. (not many left!), and I say the structure of the English language and its associated grammar thereof is important. I for one am fed up with banks and other business organizations who should know better sending out official letters to me with similar errors – signed off – I might add by executive bosses who can’t pick up these faults or couldn’t care less about them.
Sounding off with Anglo Saxon expletives is all very well informally and at the appropriate time and for sure I can out-do any of you in this skill but in the context of this post it is unnecessary, impolite and in generally poor taste. So, forthwith: kindly behave yourselves more appropriately you ignorant set of cunts!

Look Peter Williams, I understand they got carried away. There were too many people against one. As far as the english language goes, I can understand that you have integrity on the matter. I happen to be a well educated United States Citizen and I assure you that most of these people meant no offense by it. It’s just an online blog with online squabble, there’s no need to let things get out of hand. There’s an expression in the united states: “I’m not English, I’m American, we don’t speak well, we talk good.” I believe it’s an expression used in frustration when people who are too particular about the English language. There are many people from both the United States and the United Kingdom who recognize that the English which was once spoken in America is no longer English at all. Thus many people now refer to the language as American rather than English.

        Who are these “many” people?

  8. Jó Mama April 4, 2016 at 5:35 am #

Wow! We have become a petty and mindless species. I too am a grammar Nazi, but geez! Rodney King said it best, “Can’t we all just get along?” Everything is an opinion. We’re arguing over perspectives of value when the true value is in the exchange. Electronic communication is not the place to be emotionally immature. Actually, many of us are exactly thay. It is a lacking in certain areas of human development. We are not properly taught. This is where compassion comes in. If one does not know, they do not know. One cannot be chastised for positive intent. That is just plain foolishness.

  9. Name April 18, 2016 at 2:42 pm #

Don’t listen to the haters. This was a great post. Just what I was looking for.

Your note about what they “say” is the average monthly: In Canada its the same, GDP is quoted on the internet as almost $70,000. I don’t know anyone who makes that much though except a few people working in internet business. Teachers make I think 35. Police make 45 I think. Doctors make plus or minus 100.

    • Gib September 3, 2016 at 8:40 am #

Geez…I’m Canadian and most teachers make 70k plus. Cops often make 100k with overtime which they all do. Almost everyone I know makes more than 70k. At least that’s my experience in fat cat wonderland Ottawa where I live in summers.

    LOL

I’ll translate that for you David, it means HAHAHAHA.

  11. rick adam September 28, 2016 at 11:56 pm #

so if i take home 150,00 baht a month i could live pretty good huh?

    • Wiiliam Shakespear August 20, 2017 at 9:54 am #

I m guessing thete’s another 0 in there somewhere yeah? In which case you can live very well. Top end Condo or house eith Private pool, shop round there are lots of good deals now. (A year on from.your post). You ll get a nice car, if you have a family a good school, but probably not high end International, as they re over 159 K per term, some have 3 terms in a year.

One thing that stands out to me and its all across Thailand is the brilliant quality and value for hotels and resorts, So with cheap transport and reasonable roads, you can get away travel around see the place before you decide where is best for you to settle.

One piece of advice is stay away from Pattaya its OK fir a visit or short stay 3 months max. It attracts the worst of Thais and Farangs and brings out the bad in all. This is NOT Thailand, its a brothel, a money making factory and an open sewer.

Thanks for the information, Grammar doesn’t matter, if you want to know the answer to a question, it only matters that the person is giving you the answer, not a fancy statement!
I am educated, but was only looking for information for my upcoming holiday. I am just glad I was able to get the answer to my question!

So Thanks for your post, and taking the time to give from your wisdom!

Just trying to find out if I can live well in Thailand on 41000 baht a month don’t care how you say it or put it I would just like to know please

    • Chris April 7, 2017 at 4:10 am #

not a problem, just don’t live in phuket, pattaya, or bangkok and you’ll be fine.

    • Wiiliam Shakespear August 19, 2017 at 4:02 pm #

Yeah very possible mate, but you d be surviving rather than living. Its enough for a single guy, but if your single you want to be going out and about. Drinking in bars aint cheap no more £2 a bottle of beer is about the norm in any beach town, more in BKK so 70-80 Bt is min. Thai foods cheap, good and healthy, but trust me you ll soon get tired if it. I ve been here continously since 2006. I hardly ever eat Thai food now. Foreign food is twice or three times the cost in a cafe or bar restaurant.
But buyind food here and cooking at home is nt cost effective, unless there are 2 3 or 4 of you.

Western food ie cheese, bread, butter wine anything you may like Peanut f***kin butter its like 4 x the cost of the UK. I like wine and drink it every day, a cheap.bottle of Aussie or S African red is 259-300 Bt and it is pretty shit. An acquired taste.
You have to go up to.400 Bt to drink a reasonable one.
You d be renting a cheao condo with pool you might get it for 7-10 K per month, your bills will be about another 1,000 Bt. If you want your own transport a motorbike scooter would be tne best and cheapest, could get a nice decent secondhand twist n go for 25-35,000 Bt. Fuels cheap 100-130/Bt will fill her up and depending how you drive last about 150-175 Km.

I go through 70-80 K per month. I own my own home and car, my kids go to a private but not International school, I give my Thai girlfruend not the mothet 10,000 a month.
To be straight I dont do too much, really, my weekly grocery bill.is over 4,000Bt, my utility bills ate another 6-7,000 B per month.
All these prices are for a decent area of Thailand, on tne Coast, tbe islands or Chaing Mai. Yeah you can live cheaper in Isaan, but you ll go mental.within a year living up there. Some lads do, I dont know of ANY !?!?.
Thailand is not cheap any more….well at tne moment thanks to those pricks voting for Brexit nowhere is, apart from England.

Good luck any way all the best,

I am thai aged 51. My current salary is 70,000 THB. I work for an international company Thai-American firm. I have already paid all for my own townhouse of 2 stories costing 2 million baht, I live near Rama 3. I have no car because I cannot drive. I give up to 10,000 baht to my father every month.
My starting salary with a private company was 20,000 THB. I have no debt.

“If your thinking about hiring someone in Thailand I strongly urge you not to do this though. Pay someone for a months work here and they will take 6-7 days off during that month. Pay them by the day and for a days work and they will show up every day without fail.”

Sounds the same as anywhere else in the world. India, UK, Singapore, you name it. Either they are allowed to take advantage of the monthly salary or they just slack off.
