Stupid Sign in Khon Kaen

I've seen a lot of really stupid signs in Thailand before, most common one is french fried. I'm not one to talk about spelling and grammar but when it comes to naming your business, this is something you should really put some effort into. So while I'm riding around Khon Kaen I see this sign and i'm like "what". It's called Fligks.

What makes Fligks so ridiculous is it's a Movie Rental Shop. Immediately i'm looking at it thinking that they honestly made the mistake is their little tag line:

Born to be a Fligker!

Now you might be tempted to comment and say then meant to be Fligkers but the the Thai version actually reads ฟลิคส์ or ฝลิคส์ I can't tell because of the font, but regardless this would translate into Flicks and not flickers. I'm not even sure if I want to be a Flicker either.

It is ฟลิคส์ since ล cant occur after ฝ. But yeah this stuff always gives me a laugh. I’ve even seen danger signs (put up in places after people died there) that can barely be understood. Common sense says that a sign informing you of a nearby danger that might kill you would justify a professional translation.

Chris, your right you shouldn’t comment on other’s grammar. There english grammar hear is horrible as well as they’re spelling. But it is a second language to them. And you don’t have no excuses. I’d read you’re articles so I know.

    😉

ฟ – Look at the Middle point of the character. If it goes all the way up then its ฟ. If it goes half way up it is ฝ.

I just think they do not care , if you told them it was wrong they would not spend any money to fix it ,

How many guys get tattoos in Chinese or Thai and have no idea what it says ,

Move along , nothing to see here…….

Might be intentional as to not breach copyright laws and trade marks. Still in Bangkok there is a hotel called Thailand International Towers – the signs stating the rules of the hotel refer to it as T.I.T towers for short! see more fun signs in Engrish.com
