Thailand Full Moon Party Dates 2012

Even if you don't get to Koh Phangan on the preceding dates you'll still find a party going on but it's those dates the crowds get the largest. Low season is pretty tame and while they say there is 10,000 people going to the party it gets spread out so it doesn't feel like a mosh pit but if you really want to experience the biggest party of the year you have to go to the Full Moon Party in December near New Years where the most people are there.

Thailand's Full Moon Party on the island of Koh Phangan is becoming more and more of a destination for Thai people these days. Just like 15 years ago Thai people wouldn't dare to go to Khao San Road now the road sees more Thai's than foreigners. The changing mindset and openness of Thai's is changing and I would bet that in another 5 years time the full moon party around Christmas will see more Thai people than foreigners enjoying in the madness they call a party.

Best place to stay for the Thailand Full Moon Party

Quick word of advice. Book your accommodation for the Full moon party BEFORE you get to Koh Phangan. There are only 120 hotels on the small island and 15000 people. There are always people who end up sleeping on the beach because they can't find a place to stay so make sure you book a place in advance and don't be one of them. Here are my recommendations for the best places to stay in Koh Phangan for the monthly full moon party.

Phangan Bayshor Resort Koh Phangan

Phangan Bayshor Resort Koh Phangan

If your going to the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan then why stay away from all the action. I recommend this hotel/resort because it's right on the Haad Rin beach where the full moon party is held every month. I wouldn't stay here unless it's around the full moon party because it's kinda quiet but when it's busy it's busy. Sure it's not the best hotel but it is comfortable for what you pay for.

V2 Seagate Hip Hotel

This hotel on Koh Phangan has one of the most comfortable beds, great for nursing the hangover your bound to get from partying all night at the Full moon party. 2012 will be the date for all the best parties and this small hotel of only 10 rooms will be packed for each one so make sure you book well in advance.

How to get to Koh Phangan

The best way to get to Koh Phangan is to fly to Koh Samui then take a boat from there. When you arrive in Koh Samui just ask information for a taxi and boat ticket to Koh Phangan sure if you do it yourself you can get it cheaper but honestly it's only a few bucks extra so why not. Oh if you have a Thai drivers license be sure to show it because you can get a discount on the price of the boat ticket but you have to push for it.

I don't recommend taking a bus from Bangkok to Koh Phangan because it's a bloody long way and you want to feel as refreshed as possible for the big night. Stay in Samui for a few nights before hand because there are more activities to do in Samui than on Koh Phangan save the Koh Phangan for the big full moon party.

Thailand Full Moon Party Dates

My tips for the Full Moon Party In Thailand

  • Wear shoes or flip flops all the time even when your on the beach there are needles and broken glass everywhere.
  • Stay away from anything with fire, people get burned all the time. You don't need to be a macho prick.
  • If your in the sun make sure you put sunscreen on.
  • Don't be an idiot and take drugs, sure weed might be ok but anything else and your just a dumbass.
  • Don't get drunk and start fights, man this is a party not a brawl.
  • Take condoms with you everywhere, girls get very loose at the Full moon party and your bound to end up getting laid if your not a total goober.
  • Don't get totally hammered! You want to remember the experience my advice is to stay away from Sang Som and Chang beer because it gives a nasty hangover, beer I recommend Leo (drink it with ice and you won't get sick) and Red Label again drink it with ice and water and you won't get a hangover!

Many sites say the party date for Feb 2012 is actually the 7th, some (like yours) say 8th. I’m trying to plan my overseas trip…can you provide any advice on how to find out the exact date of the party? Thx…

The full moon event is at 4:27am in the morning on february 8th so the full moon would start on the 7th and end on the eigth. Other times the event can happen that night what I should add in which noone does is the times of the full moon dates so when you plan to go to the full moon party you know when to go. Thanks for pointing this out and hope that this has helped. Plan for the party to be on the night of the 7th until morning of the 8th.

Looks like there is a Buddhist holiday on the 7th so I think in that case the party will be on the 8th. Don’t know how to confirm though.
