Why i’m going to Isaan and small town Thailand

You know I've been pretty harsh on Isaan girls and while i'm not flip flopping my article on why you should stay away from Isaan girls as it still has a lot of merit I feel like i'm not exactly being fair to the brown Thai girls of Isaan. See the only interaction I've really had with isaan girls are those from the bars and go go's which is a profession that girls from Isaan seem to get themselves into. But hey, girls from central and northern Thailand seem to be coyote and g-club which those girls can be just as bad if not worse than the bar girls.

Recently I went on a 10 day trip through the heart of Thailand and met some fantastic girls, some were even dare I say "from Isaan!". These girls were warm friendly and unpretentous and never once asked a dime from me, one girl even bought me noodles! Most small town girls are virgins into their twenties, whereas girls in Pattaya lose it in their early teens.

Thing about small town Thailand is the people are so friendly and are willing to do anything to help you out. There is very limited English spoken in these smaller towns but for me as you know is not a problem. Sometimes and I'm guilty of this is when you live in the tourist cities of Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket you forget or in many cases never really see the kind generous nature of Thai people. You don't walk down the street with people staring at you with kind eyes and smiles that can stop a train. These days in Chiang Mai you walk down the street and the Thai's look the other way or in Pattaya where they are just looking at you as the next ATM machine, but in small towns like Lomsak and Phetchabun people look at you with keen interest and sometimes with lust.

I read on some bloggers page how he was raving about Pattaya that there were something like 20-30,000 thousand girls there. Most of which are not g/f material and without 2-3000 baht they won't get into the sack with you. It made me think, Isaan is home to 20 million people a million of which are girls 18-25. So I could go for a trip to Pattaya and spend 5000 baht a day banging one girl, or I could go to Isaan and spend 1000 baht a day on food accommodation transport etc and have an unlimited choice. Sure if your on holiday you wouldn't do it, but I live in Thailand I have the time so I'm not going to waste it on some bar girl who'll leave as soon as I stop paying the fine.

While you may not be able to speak Thai it doesn't really matter, most girls have enough pigeon English that if they like you the language barrier will not be a problem. Thing about small Towns in Thailand is the girls who live there that really like Farang but have pretty much ZERO opportunity to meet a Farang. They live on their small farm with their family they rarely go out much, they study and come home, only time they see a Farang is if they go to Big C or Lotus and those guys are there with their wives. See what happens when they see a single Farang just hanging around and it can be as simple as standing in front of 7 Eleven which happened to me in Nakhon Sawan.

I've got this whole routine down now with going to the temple, eating noodles, then back to watch a movie at my hotel. These small towns in Thailand are so boring there is literally nothing to do, it's even hard to find a decent coffee shop to sit at, but girls are plenty and most have only been poked a few times if at all.

This trip i'm going into the heart of Isaan Korat and Khon Kaen to see if the girls there are as real as they are up north, are Isaan girls who live in Isaan are as bad as the ones you find on Loi Kroh, Nana, Patong, or Pattaya. I've yet to go but I'm pretty sure of the answer already. Have you been to Isaan what's your experience?

This is my intended travel route i'll be gone about 21 days:

View Trip to Isaan in a larger map

Getting to some of these towns can be a real pain in the ass too. Flights only go to the major destinations and while you can get flights to places like Lomsak you have to go to Bangkok first and since I'm in Chiang mai it's a hassle, and I hate flying especially in small craft so I'll be busing it.

My Itinerary:

Phitsanulok 16/11 - 17/11
Phetchabun 17/11 - 23/11
Chaiyaphum 23/11 - 24/11
Korat 24/11 - 26/11
Khon Kaen 26/11 - 29/11
Udon Thani 29/11 - 1/12
Lom Sak 1/12 - 2/12
Phetchabun 2/12 - 7/12

If you've never been to these cities then don't worry I'm going to have it all mapped out and some interesting reads in the VIP section of the website so that if you decide to do a similar trip you know exactly where to go, where to hire a bike, where to stay and where to find the girls. Things that are much easier to find out if you speak Thai, i'll make the mistakes and you can get the benifits when you travel. Therefore this will be my last public post this month.

You can see i'm spending a lot of time in Phetchabun, why? There is absolutely nothing there! While there may not be anything to see the girls in this town are the friendliest and easiest I've ever seen in Thailand. But who knows I might get to Isaan and think it's even better. Which me luck and if your in town on those dates please let me know.

Have you had any good experiences in small towns, let us know in the comments below.

Awesome.. I dated an Issan girl who was living with her aunty in Australia.. I would have to say she was the nicest gf I have ever had.. Never expected any money.. We are still good friends now after I left Australia.. The exact opposite type of girl then a bargirl

I have been to Korat several times as my girlfriend is from Nam Wang Keow. It has always been a most pleasant experience.

Get to Bangkok, one brother has a newish car that he lends to me or one or other of the brothers drive us there then get on the bus back to Bangkok.

Her sister’s wedding was an amazing experience.

One or two Farangs to be seen, but otherwise it is a fantastic atmosphere, I have been overly looked after and have had great fun without going near a bar or cafe.

Not all girls who get to Phuket etc. are bad girls!

You will enjoy yourself there I think Chris.

      Sorry it’s Wang Nam Keow

  3. Max November 16, 2012 at 7:34 am #

Oh and I lent the sister 20000 Baht to fund the wedding and her and her new husband gave it back to me immediately from the offerings from the guests without a wince or a suggestion that I should pay!

They even dragged me onto the biggest karaoke you could imagine at the community.

Most fun I have had in years and I was proud to have been the official photographer (my gift).

There are exceptions everywhere and I personally think that if you keep your wits about you here, are polite and learn Thai culture you can be very safe and happy.

I agree and the best times I’ve had in Thailand were on a dime.

    • Forester November 16, 2012 at 7:57 am #

Thank you, Max. I moved to Chaiyaphum, the only community I’d visited besides Bangkok on my check-it-out visit. Chris writes a lot in the context of “sex tourism.” Maybe that’s his best advertising income, I don’t know. Disrespectable in my opinion. I came to live with the people, honour and respect their culture. I don’t walk about shopping the ladies as a piece of meat!

Thailand’s long-range plan is to bury “sex tourism” and promote contexts of value for visitors, i.e. “eco-tourism” and Asian history. The museum in Udon Thani seems to be known by very few people, Thai or foreign. It is outstanding.

I have never visited Pattaya nor Phuket, etc. No interest whatsoever.

The great thing I have discovered recently is the drive to ASEAN. Thai people are no different to any other people, just a different culture. The problem is that it is still a developing country however, sex-tourism and tourism in general has provided a way for many to gain wealth quickly and it has managed to get the World media attention which has propagated the bad reputation.

Phuket is not a bad place, I have lived her in Rawai, which has some of the nicest beaches I have been too, for two years and pretty much stay away from places like Patong etc. as my curiosity waned very quickly.

As long as places like that perpetuate, unfortunately the sad guys who feel the necessity to come here for cheap, easy sex will carry on coming.

As long as it (and they) are confined to the main areas then I couldn’t care less. Good for the industry if they can keep bringing in the cash to the country and the girls stay safe.

Unfortunately that is not easy with the amount of smashed up a-holes that come here. I guess that is the reason why the nasty guys here turn them over (easy prey).

I personally have many Thai friends and acquaintances who are fine, upstanding people who would not dream of ripping me off or killing me! In fact they look after me here.

This country has an amazing history, belief in life and a wonderful culture.

You should visit Phuket and see the hidden treasures away from Patong Forester.

Great insight, Forester. I am regularly frustrated with those Westerners who are so insistent that Thai’s and Thai women especially are so mercenary and insincere and basically the worst people on the planet.
These sex tourists big-note themselves as the ‘experts’ on all things Thai …..
These farang are of course the very same who travel to Thailand (or live there) only to s**** the local women who make their living out of the bars and sex industry. What in the hell do they expect to find??? They’re confusing a country’s prostitutes with the behavior and thinking of a whole country – Dumb!!!
I’m anticipating a move to TH in a year or two and I look forward to meeting local Thai’s from all walks of life (but not the bar scene) and learning about them and truly ADAPTING to their living environment.
I’m sure it’s going to be a very rewarding experience! (I just need to start learning to speak Thai – Ha!)

You don’t live in Thailand, your comment has no merit. I lived in the USA for years and years did the same shit there as I do here, employs a different game but it’s the same thing dude, get over yourself.

        • MagicMax November 21, 2012 at 6:31 am #

That’s a bit harsh Chris, I think it’s quite a valid view, however Andrew, it’s good to know some of the people in the bar and sex industry to get the complete picture and help with knowing how to deal with the way things work here (mainly Police!).

    I made numerous similar trips-
    including Korat, Surin, Buriram,
    Kohn Kaen, Nakom Pathom,
Mukdahan, Udon,…. Once in a while
you can stumble onto a great
experience but, for the most part,
    they’re looking for marriage.

    • MagicMax November 16, 2012 at 8:44 am #

That’s the same all round the World!

  6. TylerB November 16, 2012 at 8:38 am #

You will like Udon Thani.Check out the night market and Centre Point close to the train station. Also try Adulyadet Road for karaoke bars.
If you are lucky you will experience a few of the back alleys. I promise you won’t be disappointed with this city.

p.s. Top Mansion is a good clean and cheap hotel close to everything.

  7. Valdi November 16, 2012 at 9:41 am #

Can you write what is the speed and stability of the Internet in these cities: Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Chaiyaphum, Korat, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Lom Sak, Phetchabun.

    • Chris November 16, 2012 at 3:24 pm #

I’m in Phitsanulok right now, faster than Chiang Mai!

  8. Johnnie Walker November 16, 2012 at 10:26 am #

Fly? Why would you? You’re only traveling relatively short distances. I’ve driven CM to Kanchaburi in a comfortable day before.

I think you will find the people much more genuinely friendly once away from the tourist cities.

  9. Johnnie Walker November 16, 2012 at 10:28 am #

    Edit: Kanchanaburi.

You wrote ” it’s even hard to find a decent coffee shop to sit “.
That is not true in Surin .

    Hi Chris,

Your timing could not be better! I am heading to Thailand (for the first time) in January just 3 weeks after your return and I am on the fence about visiting Isan while there. I am eagerly looking forward to hearing about your experiences there.

  14. Patrick December 1, 2012 at 8:51 am #

    Chris,

I hope you had a nice time in Korat. I spent a week with my girlfriend in Chum Phuang and toured around Korat and Phimai. In Phimai I was able to see the Khmer style temple on the mountain and then on the weekend saw the river dragon boat races.

It’s a lovely area of Thailand I want to explore further and perhaps relocate to someday.

My GF’s mother is really interested in getting us to relocate there and has given my GF 4 rai of land to build a house.

Anyway, I enjoy most of your articles and congratulate you on being able to forge out a life in paradise.

    Best wishes matey…

    Cheers,
    P

The Wonders Hotel with Pool 500baht night.

You are a total misogynist piece of trash. All women should stay away from you. THE FACT THAT YOU’RE EVEN TALKING ABOUT GIRLS INSTEAD OF WOMEN IS SUPER CREEPY AND DISGUSTING. Have some respect for women as something other than a sexual object for you to use. You are so fucking creepy.

    • Chris August 5, 2017 at 11:20 pm #

You know what’s really scary? There’s millions of guys, just like me 😉

Is there a Red Light District in Chaiyaphuem?
As to the haters on this thread…Calm down. Everybady is different. Everybody has different needs. Please stop judging and trying to force healthy horney guys to be like you.I am 71 years old.
I run and take care of myself…. and I am still super horney. I hope I can boomboom hundreds more girls! If you were honest with yourself you would admit that sex is the most amazing experience one can have. Girls/women are amazing and should be enjoyed to the fullest.
