Crash at Thapae Gate in Chiang Mai

Driving anywhere in Thailand can be dangerous and a majority of accidents I've seen seem almost impossible to pull off for someone with any kind of driving skills. So today I'm walking up the street to go to 7 Eleven when I see this accident. Believe it or not it's not the first time I've seen an accident at Thapae gate Chiang Mai either.

Thapae Gate

Would like to know what other people think of drivers in Thailand.
Sometimes it's not just the Thai's that drive crazy either.

In Phuket the foreigners are just as bad as the thai’s. Lack of enforcement by the police. The amount of times I was nearly killed by drivers overtaking on blind corners was crazy.

is the Pope a Catholic? they are useless drivers because they are irresponsible not because they are stupid – they just do what they want and ‘mai bpen rai’

    translated as ‘I don’t give a shit’.

That is not to say there are not moronic farangs around but, generally, they are raised to understand responsibility more and so drive better (in comparison).

How this person managed to crash like that? oh hang on – stupid question – he/she was answering their phone while drinking their coffee right? and why not! mai bpen rai 😛

I saw an accident in Nongkhai, which the driver turns left but instead of going properly on the left side of the road, he ended up bumping his car into another car coming the right side. Silly. That happened in the day time!

The other day I was crossing the street on the zebra crossing and that fucking Thai driver in his car thought I was not walking fast enough and hit the gas pedal, almost ran me over.

I’ve just returned from a 3 week holiday in chiang Mai. Rented a car.
Thai drivers and damn inconsiderate. They don’t really care how their driving affects anyone or pisses ppl off!
    -not indicating when driving
    – hogging both lanes when driving
    – doing u-turns completely dangerously making you go from 80km/hr to a grinding stop
    – driving across the main rd without looking for cars making me break so hard I leave tire marks on the ground
    – motorbikes that come in front of you at the traffic light, and when it’s green they only drive 30km per hr making u slow and requiring to over take them, especially when the traffic light is green for 20-30sec and the wait is like 5min for the next set of green lights
    And the list goes on….

I think the Thai people are good drivers. You just have to get used to their way of driving. The average American would get into so many accidents if most people drove like the people in Thailand drive because they have no sense. The Thais are just trying to get where they are going quickly, so they may cut out in front of traffic and do some crazy things, but the other drivers are ready for this to happen and they drive cautiously but aggressively at the same time. I think if you consider some of the things you see regularly (people driving the wrong way down a street, turning in front of traffic, not driving in the lines, etc) then the fact that there isn’t crazy accidents all the time means that Thai people are actually very good drivers.

What are you talking about dude? You sure you live in Thailand? Hogging both lanes is not considered a good driver because a good driver considered the other people on the road. I’m sure you’re trolling bro by this statement “the fact that there isn’t crazy accidents all the time means that Thai people are actually very good drivers.” the facts and statistics say otherwise.

what??? have you read the accident stats? they are f’ing appalling drivers

Only someone who has never driven professionally would say something like this. I agree to an extent that they don’t have as many accidents on a percentage basis compared to the absolutely stupid and ignorant things they do but this does not qualify them as “good” drivers….just extremely lucky and patient.

      Stop trolling.

Thailand is #6 IN THE WORLD for road accidents.

#1 in all of Asia by a landslide.

The stats are out there, look it up.

I will not comment on the Thai’s or the foreigners that live or va-ca here because I don’t feel like writing a book. All I’ll say is that I’m from the Detroit area and have seen some shitty drive but sheesh!
Can’t remember if I was still living in BKK and just visiting CNX or had just moved there but my friend and I were walking on the opposite side of the moat a little down from this accident across from Moonmuang soi 2 that has the big shitty disco that Step Up(?) and Scratch are in. Anyway this car was facing the opposite of the street direction and had crashed into a tree just missing falling in the drink.
    H
    ow they do it! 😉

I think Thai drivers are both good and bad. They are skilllfull in some situations.
My brother in law is a taxi driver in BKK,he is a very good driver in actually driving the car, but like many Thais he does’nt follow the traffic rules, or sometimes anyway.
I think you need to be pretty good to drive a taxi in Bkk.
But he boasts about how he doesn’t obey the rules.
In that way they are bad drivers.
They are very good at avoiding all sorts of obstacles,eg…dogs. bikes ,food carts etc….
I tried it and found it very hard to do,so i gave up driving there.
One thing they are not good at is reversing, usually need help when doing this.
Don’t see many reverse parking there.
