Online Work You Can Do In Thailand

The following is a list of Ideas jobs and occupations of ways you can make money in Thailand without having to work a boring desk job in Bangkok or a Teaching Job up country. Tens of thousands of people are living in Thailand off money they make overseas. I've done a number of online jobs in Thailand many are on this list I tried to figure out what worked and didn't work until I realised blogging is more my thing.

Graphic Designer in Thailand

If you have a background in graphic design there are unlimited number of opportunities you can take advantage of on the Internet to make more than enough money to fund your Thailand lifestyle. You could create Logos at 99designs, small jobs on Elance, and if you already have an established network of people who need graphics created you could be enjoying life in Thailand saving more money than you could back home not to mention the improved lifestyle.

Selling on Ebay in Thailand

While you can't just up and go anywhere you want you can still make money online on ebay from Thailand. I did this for a year and made a lot of money out of it but being tied down to the same place isn't really me which is why I stopped doing it and put all my ideas into the book. Still if you gave me $1000 I bet I could still double that in a month selling on ebay in Thailand and so could you!

Programmer in Thailand

This is how I first made money in Thailand and what I actually did my past life before moving to Thailand. The pay is really good if your skilled or have a very narrow niche. You'll be turning a lot code though so if you really love it then it's a great way to live in Thailand, the pay is excellent even on eLance you can get work that earns you more than 1000 baht an hour.

Blogger in Thailand

If you think you're going to come to Thailand and start the next big blog and make a tonne of money your chances of failure certain. Blogging sounds easy but only those people who sleep drink and eat their blog 24/7 are successful and it still takes years to build up. However a lot of successful bloggers live in Thailand, though not all will openly admit it.

Internet Marketing in Thailand

The lines between Blogger and Internet Marketer are blurred and you'd never meet an Internet marketer who didn't also have his/her own blog. Internet Marketing can be one of the most profitable ways to earn a living in Thailand if you are really good at it but then you don't need to be getting fat affiliate checks every month either, I know people who have done this set themselves up with 50-80,000 baht a month in commissions and havn't done any work for the past 3 years and the money keeps rolling in. With this kind of recurring income you could retire in Thailand before you hit 25, and many are.

Playing Poker in Thailand

Making money playing poker in Thailand is essentially illegal in fact any form of gambling except for the National Lottery is illegal however it's pretty hard to prove that you've been gambling online and if you work with a VPN it's untraceable. Playing poker is a skill that you must already possess or do tonnes of study. I know some guys make more than $20,000 USD a month playing poker and guys who have made even more.

Trading Shares in Thailand

A guy once told me that the only way to make money through trading shares is to be the owner of a private fund, this way you make bank commissions even if you make good trades or bad trades that tank. However there are some mini Warren Buffets out there that do make good money on trading shares, some even do it on the Thai stock market.

Writing in Thailand

You don't have to be John Grishim to make money from writing in Thailand and you don't even need to write about Thailand for that matter. There are writing opportunities galore to publish your own ebooks these days as well as small contract work on eLance you could even make money writing about anything on squidoo though this would take an enormous about of work. Opportunities are out there you just need to find out what works for you.

you could try your luck on the ponies, can bet in the thai version of the TAB.

when you say “ponies”, do you mean have a stable of TGs that you rent out for rides?

There are other computer related jobs on the interenet besides programmer. SQL people IMHO are not the same as C# programmers, and IT type consultants, can also do well. I beleive even some can do help desk, chat support and even other IT jobs online. The key is being very highly qualified in a field where it is hard to find people or the pay is astronimical and people are willing to let you be remote instead of a seat warmer. These jobs are usually result oriented instead of you jsut sitting waiting for tasks.

Ebay is tough as the minute you have a winner with something you buy in Thailand , you will be undercut by a Thai ,

You need to make something yourself , hope it sells and have a few new things in the wings ,

A moving target makes money on ebay…..

Ebay is not easy but one thing Thai’s can’t undercut you on and that’s efficiency and communication, both are essential for any eBay seller and without them you will end up getting bad reviews and noone will buy from you.

Day trading (or should we say ‘night trading’?) can be risky if you’re looking for quick gains and the stock action is happening when you’re sleeping.

Another option that I’ve seen foreigners do with start-up money is create a rental business. A few have motorbike rentals, and a few have auto rentals. I’m not sure how the company was formed or more details, but I thought I’d just mention the idea.

I have met a handful of foreigners who telecommute for a company back in their home country. Basically if you use a computer and a telephone during your work there might be a way to telecommute. Some ideas are IT related, computer related, customer service, marketing, the list can go on.

I’ve worked all my professional life as a writer and a couple of years ago, I was incredibly lucky to be offered a reasonably well paid full time editorial job in Thailand – the country I love. It’s an online news service and I edit stories and features sent in every day from all over Asia. I also run a blog for the service.

I also write and edit a blog independently and get well paid for it on monthly standing order to my bank, by a woman who is obsessed with fashion. I know shit about fashion, but it’s amazing what 10 minutes on Google will tell you!

If I had, say, four or five blogs like that one, I could work from home permanently and make a very nice living. But there’s no doubt I would have to put in at least eight hours serious work, five days a week – it’s definitely not a ticket to a leisurely life. And gigs like that are by no means easy to come by anyway.

    Couple of other observations:

Writing for services like Elance and Textbroker, IMO, is a waste of time. With Elance you have to bid for every job and it’s an extremely crowded marketplace as there are no filters on the abilities of people who tout themselves as writers. Believe me, some of them are barely literate, yet anyone and everyone can bid for every job. If you do land one, it’s fairly well (although not fantastically well) paid, but you’ll spend more time bidding than actually writing. I also wrote a few things for Textbroker and although it’s much easier to bag the jobs, the money is just hopeless. You’d never make a worthwhile living from it – extra pocket money is the most you can hope for.

Having looked into it quite deeply, I’m extremely sceptical about internet marketing. It strikes me that most of it is a version of pyramid selling; people tell other people how they can make fortunes, by telling other people again how they can make fortunes. And these so-called internet marketing experts gloss over the real hard graft that needs to be done. They tell you you can put a slick, professional website that people would give a shit about in a matter of days, with no technical experience or design talent needed. It’s absolute bollocks. They also quote response figures for your email campaigns etc that I know for a fact – having worked for years in the direct marketing side of advertising – are pure fiction. Then they get you to sign up for one of their expensive training courses, where they train you to feed the same bullshit to another sucker.

Sorry to sound so negative. I just think that people should have realistic expectations as they set out on one of these paths, or they will waste their time and end up disappointed. But I also say, definitely, follow your dream – if you want it bad enough you can make it come true. But be under no illusions that you’ll have to work for it. Good luck!

Internet Marketing is more like people who erect those billboards along the freeway. The freeway is the internet, and the signs are whatever the marketer puts up. It definately has it’s uses people learn about things they wouldn’t otherwise learn about. It does have some problems though and a grew area like spammers. Elance is difficult but in the right niche you can do well, your observations are right though. Thanks for your message problem with most internet work is people get lazy and don’t put the effort and time into it, this site is a great example, i’ve spent every single day for almost 2 years on it. If I only did a few hours a week I wouldn’t have got anywhere.

If you want the best shipping rates you’ll need a registered business in Thailand (or at least someone with a business in Thailand already).
