Wakeboarding In Thailand

At first thought I didn't think wakeboarding would even be heard of in Thailand, but then after thinking about it you know Thailand has a sea of rivers a very long coastline. There is no reason why there wouldn't be wakeboarding in Thailand.

A quick search on the Internet revealed just how popular and growing this sport is in Thailand, there is an actual wakeboard park not far from Bangkok, and there are companies mostly in the south that are dedicated to pulling you out on the river or ocean and tearing it up for fun.

If you don't know what wakeboarding is it's kind of like a cross between surfing and water skiing. You get pulled on the back of a boat the same as jet skiing however instead of two ski's you are given what looks like a small surfboard which they've named a wakeboard. The term wakeboard was given because using the board to launch yourself off the wake of the boat is the ultimate rush according to wakebaorders and is actually quite impressive if you get to see it.

Although the islands in Thailand offer some of the best views to go wakeboarding and for those super adventurous would travel too. If your like me or just want something to do for the day then the only real place to go is the Thai Wake Park just north of Bangkok. This place is cheap and easy to get to and a super fun day out. In fact the park is world class and boarders come here in droves from all over the world to try their obstacles and tough it out with some of the best riders in the world. Don't be intimidated though you can be a total beginner and really enjoy yourself here too. Knowing how to swim is recommended.

Check out the Thai Wake Park here.

Phuket also has an awesome cable ski park for wakeboarding in Thailand and has been around for the past 15 years so has a very good reputation. Not as busy as the Thai Wake Park mostly because it's on the island and not near Bangkok. This is the kind of place that mostly tourists go to. I believe the locals are getting into it now but not in the same number of tourists. The lake is very flat and the weather in Phuket is awesome for trying out wakeboarding. You can find more information about Phuket wakeboarding and cable ski park here.

For the die-hard wakeboarding fans if your looking for the ultimate open water wakeboarding adventure in Thailand then you have to head to Koh Pangyan. This is probably the wakeboard adventure of Thailand that is the surfboard adventure to Bali. Take a bunch of mates put them on an island of daily wakeboarding and all night partying. You can check out the Wake Up Wakeboarding site here.

I also heard there is a cable ski park near Pattaya but I couldn't find a website for it so am not sure if it's still open and I don't want people to plan a holiday near Pattaya to go wakeboarding based on something I don't know if it's still open, but if anyone has been recently please let me know.

The Pattaya wake boarding lake is off of Sukhumvit Road near the Makro store. I’ve never seen anyone boarding there and the place looks pretty beat up and poorly taken care of.

That is the only one I’m aware of there. I went there once looking to have a day of fun but no one was there. Looked like no one had been there in months.
