Getting Directions in Thailand

I was trying to get to my friends place last night and this girl is giving me directions to her place, she was all over the place and this is normal for getting directions in Thailand. When someone says 100 meters they probably mean 800 meters! Left means right and right means left. I was at a friends place last night and needed to get a story out and since she was using the computer I thought I'd use her Ipad to record a video instead.

This video is in Thai about getting directions in Thailand unscripted of course.

Getting Directions in Thailand This video is the post in English about getting directions in Thailand again unscripted

Can’t follow the vids as I understand very little Thai.
Is that deaf signing the girl is doing? Doesn’t look quite animated enough.

Agree its a waste of time asking a Thai directions because if they don’t know, they won’t admit to not knowing because of the loss of face issue, so will just make something up giving you a complete bum steer.

What you said is so true, I find myself in those situations all the time. My method is to try and find my own way first and if that fails ask the locals as many as it takes till I get the same answer three times. ( but then it still not guaranteed the correct directions)

Hit the nail on the head there! Ive just moved to Chiang Mai and today went out on the bike to map it out. When asking directions somewhere people just seemed to get flustered and start rambling. Its gets really awkward, why don’t they just they just say they don’t know.
