Why choose to live in Thailand?

There isn't one kind of person that comes to Thailand there are many. There's the sex starved older English gent that finds paradise in the Neon lights of Pattaya to the American couple who have figured out that they don't want to live there lives drowned in debt only to realize they've missed out on Living their lives. You'll find a lot of grumpy old men who are single and spend their time Farang bashing on Thai Visa and younger guys who party to the break of dawn every night. The English teacher who's looking for "world experience" I'm sure you've met all sorts of people in Thailand.

The guy that has an uncle that's awesome at whatever it seems you know something about and the bloke that can't stop moaning about every single thing wrong with Thailand. The guy who makes 1 million baht a month to the Joe that gets by on 30k, the Mormon's on their bicycles and the bikers on their ride's I've seen them all. The more people I meet in Thailand the more convinced I am that most people are as fucked up as I am, just in different ways. Those differences can be tremendous yet the one thing we all have in common is that we have all decided to live in Thailand.

Blueprint for living in Thailand

There isn't just One kind of person that moves to Thailand but there is one thing that makes us all want to be here...CHANGE....we want to change our lives, change the scenery, and change the way we live life. When you are inside your home and close the doors you really could be anywhere in the world minus the noise, internet speeds, bum guns and decent wiring which is a constant reminder that you are not. When you do decide to get out Thailand offers adventure unlike what you could ever experience back home.

moving to thailand

I can't teach you how to get a job as an English teacher or how to play a Thai instrument but I can tell you that if you come to live in Thailand your life is going to change forever. Whatever common sense or logic you may have had will be rendered completely useless. Unless you work a 8-5 in Thailand the days will all blend together until it's the weekend every day. You'll become accustomed to load noises, people pointing and talking about you, the sight of garbage and rats will become the norm as the word sanitary is removed from your vocabulary.

I'm always stressing on how much money you should have in Thailand simply because I see it time after time guys coming here wanting to live here but can't, then guys who really can't but obstacles aside they still give it a go then fuck up and leave, and guys who don't get it at all here who soon fall off balconies and flying out of windows, off bridges, drinking pills, or the easiest way would be to tell a Tuk Tuk driver you piss on reds.

Honestly I don't want everyone to make it in Thailand. That would take the whole fun out of it. If you fuck up don't blame me.

I thought I was going to write the article about the reasons why you should live here, but what's the point? My reasons aren't going to be the same as yours. Every single decision you make once you have moved here will affect your life and not the reasons before.

My three reasons for moving to Thailand

  • Sick of work
  • Hang out with my Dad
  • Wanted a change of pace

But these are the reasons I stayed in Thailand

  • The pussy
  • The Nightlife
  • The price

So do me and everyone a favor and write in the comments the 3 reasons why you moved to Thailand. and the three reasons why you stayed, maybe someone reads it and they decide to Change their life.

    The reason I came:
After graduating college I wanted to do something different.

    The reason I stayed:
Easy life. It’s affordable to live my dreams.

New friends. Everyone back home seemed to just be a copy of everyone else.

Time. I guess once you live here for a while it just seems weird to go back.

I chose to not live in Thailand.
    Why not?
It’s difficult to make money there!
I read all the books including Chris’s.
    Some people are natural entrepreneurs.
    I’m not.
I have difficulty making money in my home country!
    *sigh*

    • Chris December 29, 2013 at 8:53 am #

Thailand isn’t for everyone, it’s hard to make money anywhere really, just never stop trying different things. Thanks for the comment it’s fair to say not everyone is going to find paradise in Thailand.

I moved for change as well.

My intention was to work less and have no boss – have total freedom.

I found what I was looking for but as time passes by my life is starting to look more and more as it was in my home country. I am always busy, have almost no free time and have even more responsibilities than I had before. But just the fact I don’t have a boss (except the one at home) makes everything so much better.

The reason I decide to stay here are the people. The people in Western Europe are bitter, angry about everything, against everything, complain about everything. People here are more happy, more friendly and easygoing. It’s very easy to talk to anyone and if you speak Thai you meet lots of interesting people every day.

I am 100% happy here and I wouldn’t go back, even if you would offer me millions to do so.

I don’t get it… There are already lots of girls at our home country, especially those with real character, intelligence and beauty. Our home is more clean and modern, lightning speed internet, more diverse people, the horniest and prettiest girls you can find in America if you dare to seek it… I’ve lived in Thailand for 9 years and it’s nothing compared to what it used to be like back home… This is just my opinion.

    • Chris January 7, 2014 at 6:21 pm #

I lived years in USA California actually. The girls prettier? well depends what eyes your looking through. Girls with intelligence and character, you forgot to mention bitch and balls in that sentence. If you think it’s better back there you should leave now. Don’t live your life with regret and don’t be somewhere you really don’t wanna be. Some people are attracted to small Thai girls, some blonde with blue eyes.

And if you think I’m an old bloke… I’m turning 27 years old. I’ve got only 3 years left to make up for my full potential. It may seem that Thailand is the easiest place to get chicks, I won’t deny that, but when you accept the fact that the majority are all just into your pockets, it just shows we aren’t living to our full potential.

    • Chris January 7, 2014 at 6:28 pm #

Your comment is funny, women all over the world just want your money bro, get outta Thailand you’ll see that. I lived in Newport Beach, wanna see money hungry bitches who will sleep with anyone to get ahead go there. The real fact is chicks there will cost you more and are way smarter about fleecing you than Thai’s.

    • KennyN January 19, 2014 at 2:03 pm #

LOL I wouldnt say a majority of Thai girls are just “into your pockets”…. Maybe the majority you are fucking are (and most white guys). My past 2 Thai girlfriends are the HiSo type whos families have far more money than I will ever make here….

IT IS POSSIBLE TO MEET GIRLS OUTSIDE OF THE INTERNET AND SPICY CLUB.

  11. Bam January 8, 2014 at 8:25 am #

We are just different, okay? I like Thai woman too. Sweet, soft, most of them skinny good for my eyes.

  12. Mild January 10, 2014 at 1:35 am #

Interesting… The women here are not all that. Yes, many of the younger girls look cute, but not much upstairs and very little ambition and quite immature. NO comparison to a good woman in the US. And, no comparison to a Filipina.
The place it’s self is just ok. The forests are void of life and there is trash everywhere. It’s an under developed 3rd world country with very few english speaking people.
The one draw for me was cost of living, cheap medical/dental and a base for travel around asia. But, I’m finding that I desire to move to the Philippines more and more each day. After my up coming trip to island hop in P.I. I will decide if I want to put up with this environment or that one. Most things are equal, but the ocean, beaches and jungle hiking in P.I. is hands down much better.
To say it’s better than the US in any sense (other than cost) is ridiculous. When the one inciting factors that draw people here (cost of living) is exhausted soon, you will see this place struggle to support the infrastructure that is being over built here.
    Pick your poison.

    • Chris January 10, 2014 at 4:18 am #

The USA is a big place and really hard to compare Thailand to the country. Though most of the USA is a hole, violent, dangerous, and overly expensive. Doubt anyone would choose to live in say Michigan over Thailand….weather might be a factor, Connecticut versus Thailand? Given a choice personally I’d rather not live in an icebox. But everyone is different and this argument is one no one will win.

    • KennyN January 19, 2014 at 2:06 pm #

I would agree with you about filipinas… Perfect English, and a lot more outgoing personality… They just want to have fun all day and all night… I think thats why they are a third world country still hahahaha. Filipinas are really really great. I stay here for the food though!

  13. KennyN January 19, 2014 at 2:09 pm #

    Why I came here….
    1. Adventure
    2. Party
    3. Girls

    Why I stay…
    1. I look like a bad ass on my PCX…. Try that in the states.
    2. Do whatever the fuck you want, day and night… As long as your not bothering anyone, this place is lawless.
3.The food is great…. Cant beat som tum, pad thai, pad prik pow, tom yum… The list goes on…
    4. No real conversation in relationships…. Its fucking amazing. I love using basic English….. Also trumping every thai girl in every argument I have ever had… So easy to win arguments against non native speakers hahahahah

    • PITBULL February 6, 2014 at 6:04 am #

Great response KennyN. Almost as if I wrote it myself. I love my PCX 😉

I’m really on the fence about Thailand. I live in New York and love it, but the cost of living is crazy. I think the chicks are so hot here too. Not as good as South Beach but still nice.

Ahh..I may just have to take the plunge and see what it’s like.

  15. screenwarmer February 10, 2014 at 4:26 am #

I love the adventure. I don’t really think it’s easy to live here. Most everything is more difficult
than the US but I love it. We are outsiders and there’s good and bad that comes with it. I don’t think it’s nice or fair to say Thai girls are dumb compared to another country. They’re culturally different. Different mindset, different upbringing. As far as money goes all women want security, it doesn’t matter where they are from. It’s a challenge to stay here but I really don’t think I’d be happy going back to the US.

    3 reasons moving here
    1. The chicks
    2. The nightlife
    3. Wanted a change

    3 reasons I’m staying
    1. The chicks
    2. I like the change
    3. I have a hot Gik

  16. CMLK January 28, 2017 at 9:35 am #

    1. The never-mind attitude.
I.e) Where I’m from, you might see a girl obviously uncomfortable having worn a skirt an inch too short, drawing more attention and lecherous stares by constantly tugging at it.

In Thailand, a leftover from last night would be on the BTS amidst the rush hour crowd, bitching on her phone about the F-uped customer who made her take the train; (It’s actually a lesson you should be grateful for.) whilst scratching her twat- and nobody gives her a 2nd glance, except maybe the English teachers who don’t enough.

    2. The chicks… duh

    3. The price of p

“More diverse back home…” I’m curious as to where you call home holmes?

As mentioned above, you can’t compare Australia to say.. Soi Cowboy.

In L.A- Latinos blacks and Asians make up the majority.

Have you been to any of the top university campuses in So Cal? Most of em are Asian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, a few Thais etc..

I’d say they have a lot more going up there than white chicks.. unless your up there meant their tits. If that’s the case, I know a bunch of chicks or chicks w/ dicks who’s had theirs done.

Slow net speed? Man… try Vietnam or Laos. Can’t you just download first and watch it later? Don’t expect top speeds with free guesthouse wifi or a free modem included with the cheapest net package.

Sure. Net speeds faster than a speeding bullet back home- but for how much? Still more bang for the baht here.

    Reasons for staying….
    1) I like the erm.. temples.
    2) It’s nice to have people do a semi-bow when they greet me.
    3) Santa’s cap counts as a helmet regardless of your religion 😉
    4) Conveniet trash bins (or piles). Please be considerate enough to NOT start another pile of your own a few feet away from an existing one. There’s probably a designated bin under all that.

Last I checked, a fine for littering in another country can cost 2 LTs and drinks maybe a court date as well.

Please do not flame me or start anything that involves mothers etc.. it’s all in good humor.

I am an American expat living in China. I own a home in Shenzhen, China, and have a second home in Thailand that I visit periodically. Why do I do it? Why do I have one foot in China, and one toe in Thailand, and nothing in the USA?

    China Thailand USA
    ——— ———— ——–
Work is everywhere Some work No work
Girls are awesome Girls are ok (little dark/chubby) Girls are ugly and huge
Food is awesome Food is awesome Food is so-so
Prices are reasonable Prices are CHEAP! Everything is expensive
Hot most of the year Hot most of the year Seasons
    Easy going Easy going Tense
As a boss – girls are FREE Girls all come with a price Not worth considering
Fast internet slow internet medium internet
Party nation Party city Parties against the law

For me, the best thing is to work in China and live my life. Then, make forays into Thailand, and enjoy the aspects of life that I can’t get in China. It’s not girls. IT is the fantastic food, and fun outdoor adventures.

Do – NOT – be – under – the – impression – that – ONLY – Thailand – has – sex. It doesn’t. China did not get so populated by being frigid.
