Fight Bad Web Vows to shut down Facebook and Youtube
Mallika Boonmeetrakul a spokeswoman for the democratic party started a group called Fight Bad Web that vows to have facebook and youtube shut down in Thailand. The ridiculous comments from this lady made one journalist at the Bangkok Post write the following story about her here.
Before this story came out today I knew about this lady and this group of vigilantes because this blog was submitted to the ICT for censorship and possible blocking. I don't know the details of the submission but I do know that there were a group of Thai ladies who didn't like me writing my opinions of Thai girls for all to see. Since I've done nothing wrong though they couldn't act on anything but the ordeal has made me more aware and careful about what I write.
Since 98% of Thai people I know use Facebook and most of them use it at least once a day imagine the backlash there would be if they did shut it down, sure Thai people like to say they want to uphold their morals and all that but when it comes down to it noone here is going to agree to this bulls&*^.
What I want to know is who are the people that decide what a "Bad Web" is or isn't. I'm sure it's not anyone that thinks like your or I. And what are there plans to police every single website on the planet? What a waste of time and resources, let people be their own judge of what a good site or bad site is.
I think the whole idea is whack and unconstitutional and fully corrupt. Let's say for example I started a forum to compete with the likes of Bangkok post and Thai Visa, I started to gain market share and then one of these bigger businesses lobbys the group with donations and has me shut down. Believe me this is already happening.
Honestly this lady Mallika Boonmeetrakul is out of control, I checked her twitter account and did a search on the Internet and she's been encouraging kids aged 11years old to surf the Internet and help her find websites that break the law and submit the sites to her group.
The ironic part of this whole story is the lady who made the statements about shutting down facebook has the groups Fight Bad Web page as a group on facebook. Well if she shuts it down i guess so does her ability to connect with people to help her cause. Idiot.
