Why Thailand is an Amazing place to live!

The Year 2013 has been an amazing year not just for me but for many Expats in Thailand. Tourist numbers are up, and more people moving to Thailand I started to ask myself “what is so Amazing about Thailand” so much so that more and more people are coming to live here. Already Thailand has seen more tourists coming to Thailand so far in 2013 than ALL of 2009. Tourists Numbers to Thailand 2013. The Chinese have really seen the biggest growth and as of last month according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand more Chinese are coming to Thailand than of all the countries in Europe combined and this includes Russia.

Amazing Thailand

Most countries numbers are up and many more people around the world are discovering Thailand. What people love about Thailand varies widely yes you still have the sex tourist but mostly people are in search of an easy going relaxing but cheap holiday destination. There’s an edge to Thailand that you don’t really have anywhere else.

It’s because of this edge that those who have visited want to stay. The things I used to look at and think “what is wrong with this place” are now the things that make me want to live here. The cheap economy the corruption the open prostitution and the poverty that makes things possible here that are virtually unthinkable back home.

We’re not all here for the same reasons but somehow Thailand has what were all searching for. But what exactly is it? I’d love to hear about what other people think is so amazing about Thailand so begin I’ll tell you why I think Thailand is an Amazing place to live.

The women

Only in Thailand would you have books, websites, forums filled with thousands of horror stories of how Thai women have ruined men yet they still keep coming. Thailand is fairly introverted and honestly if Thai girls had met a Nice Thai guy who was financially stable she probably wouldn’t ever think about being with a foreigner. Out of the words of a close Thai girlfriend of mine “The only reason why Thai girl like foreigner is for money”. So if you can continue making money you’ll find love in Thailand. Lose it and that’s another story. None of these stories are really doing any hard to the hoards of guys still coming to have their fix of Thai love.

The Culture

The Thai culture is truly amazing. Family is number 1 and this is one thing that I admire about Thailand, at least in my country I’ve seen enough family infighting to know it’s bullshit, we should be more like the Thai’s in this respect. What you have you share with the family, what many westerners (not so much for Asian cultures) fail to understand that your commitment to the family is based on your means so yes the more your means the more your commitment and contribution. Having failed to understand this even if you had no money your commitment would be made with non-monetary commitments like you’re actual time and help. Buddhism and the idea that elders immediately get more respect is something that I think our own cultures should adopt. Thai culture and way of doing things is one of the main reasons I live here.

The economy

Thailand is hardly the cheapest place in the world but for bang for your buck it’s still the top destination (according to the numbers). You can live in Thailand on any budget and still it’s better than back home. Not playing by the rules there’s someone to pay off want to cut down the tree in your backyard just do it! Complain about what you will the socioeconomic problems of Thailand are part of the reason we live here.

The Beauty

Thailand is such a beautiful country, the islands down south have the most natural beauty and it’s the beaches that attract so many visitors. Thailand is easily accessible also, trains, buses, planes, and as much as people complain about the language barriers and lack of English skills with enough broken English you can get around the country without too much hassle. Yeah Thai’s aren’t into cleaning their community and keeping it to our standards but that’s the edge here you don’t get elsewhere. If we wanted perfect we wouldn’t be in Thailand.

    1. Easier to connect.
I like it here because people notice me. Back home I was invisible because everyone was walking around eyes on the ground and deep in their thoughts like zombies, thinking about problems or how to buy more shit they don’t need.

    2. Smiles.
Every time I see a genuine smile, I automatically start smiling and feel better :)

    For me it’s culture, culture,culture
The natural beauty of the people and the environment
    The food! Wow the food!
Thailand makes Australia feel like such a baby culture
The realism of the place is it a dream or is it real
Buddhism teaches real equality not everywhere but more than other places
If I could I would drop everything and live in Thailand and one day I will
