Where to find and buy Marijuana in Thailand

You came to this page looking for Marijuana and dope in Thailand, first thing I'd like to ask is....Are you crazy? Marijuana is prohibited in Thailand and is completely illegal. You might have heard stories about people getting high in Thailand however they are really walking a fine line, ever heard the story Bangkok Hilton? Yeah, buying drugs in Thailand is a bad idea.

Some well known spots to buy Marijuana in Thailand have been reported were Patpong in Bangkok, Koh Samui in the south, Pattaya Beach, and the mountains of Chiang Mai, also were reported in the same places were people being arrested and thrown in jail for years because they attempted to buy or have purchased Marijuana in Thailand.

Buying Marijuana In Thailand

Buying Marijuana In Thailand

Every time I'm in Pattaya walking along beach road someone is trying to sell me some sort of drug, do I look like a druggie geez! Once I was on an overnight trek in the mountains of Chiang Mai when some hill tribe person tried to sell me a kilo of weed for like $100. If I did want any which I didn't why in the world would I want a whole bloody kilo of it, actually a week later I was talking to the Tourist Police who said a man was busted with 1/2 of marijuana in his hotel room safe, the maid had smelt it, now the guy is in jail pending trial. Are you sure you want that same fate?

Pai is also another place foreigners have known to go to buy Marijuana in Thailand, about 2 1/2 hours drive out of Bangkok is a small sleepy village, it's known that this place is full of bars and while not freely available I've heard stories of people buying the drug from the guys that work in the bars and tattoo shops.

I've seen people ask Tuk Tuk drivers for drugs in Thailand, pretty scary way to buy drugs in Thailand, if you actually do survive the ride with the Tuk Tuk driver and don't get scammed, robbed or driven to the police you might be in the few percentage of people who walked away.

One place in Thailand you can actually see Marijuana grown is at Doi Bui about 10km after the famous Doi Suthep, just keep driving until you see the signs. The actually have poppies growing which heroin is made out of as well as marijuana plants growing on the hillside, you can actually dress up in traditional clothes and get your photo taken next to the plants.

Every backpacker to Thailand knows that if you go to Koh Pangan full moon party there are lots of drugs available including Marijuana, it seems like Pai there is a very if any police presence in the area and that if it were to happen there no one would know the better.

Thai police have taken on American style policing where entrapment is allowed even for rolling a joint. Undercover policemen patrol the known drug areas of Thailand searching for drug users and drug dealers. I hear more people getting busted buying drugs than I do drug dealers selling drugs, i don't know if this is corruption or they are just good at hiding the stuff (doubt it).

In all the Thai police do have crackdowns on drug dealers and busts occur all the time, huge stakes too, police are often shot at during the raids on drug dealers, it's a very scary business to be in Thailand especially before when the previous government was in power. However the Thai police force do an excellent job with the resources they have.

Finally whatever you do don't go try and find Marijuana and other drugs in Thailand, there are so many wonderful highs you can get out of Thailand you don't need to do that stuff. Try some Sang Song whisky, that'll put you out faster than weed will!

As the article states in the initial paragraph, visitors, expats and Thais all need to be aware of the consequences (or potential consequences) of getting caught with drugs in Thailand. It’s very difficult to predict the exact punishment from possession or selling small scale drugs like marijuana law in Thailand … though the more dangerous drugs will definitely result in longer jail terms. Even if one is extradited to serve their prison sentence in America or wherever their country of origin, they still must serve the full sentence. Stories are sometimes heard (whether true or not) that suggest an offender caught with marijuana can be subjected to large on-the-spot fines by Thai police (unofficially) with their only other alternative being an official drug charge. It’s possible that a tourist could get lucky and leave the country with an emptied bank account (fines) as their only punishment, but it’s ill-advised to take the risk according to most experts.

It’s true, I’ve heard of people getting off very scott free with only a quick fine to the Police, however you must act quickly, once it’s at the station that’s it.

I was stationed @ U-Tapao RTAB in 1968..My duty station was the control tower slinging combat B52 & KC135 tanker traffic, and I relaxed by smoking guncha and banging my 16 yr old teelock [it’s cool, because I was only 20 then]..A pack of Falling Rain cost 20 baht and 3 tokes would put me one toke over the line,so it was a great investment..The pooyang and jeekos watched out for me and my possee,so we were safe..Fortunately I’m a straight edge these days, because Thai weed can really rearrange one’s priorities.

I wanted to know where it grows, which province, what area? I don’t want to buy,but I like to see growing methods

As Chris points out in the final paragraph of the article, it’s best to leave it all alone. As my neighbor (in BKK) said to me essentially the same: you better not get caught with it.

The drug laws in Thailandare VERY flexible. Some cops will give u a warning. Others will ask for a bribe few hundred++. Others will throw u in the slammer fora joint. Weed is a class 5 drug. Meth, coke and H are class 1. Some provinces allow Thai nationals to grow a plant or two in their yards. This writer makes it out as if scoring some dope = BangkokHilton. Not true. Just dont be stupid or blatant about it. Loads of Thai Uni students blaze. Its best to befriend a Uni student if u have enough time. Buying tuk tuk guys=low quality+hi price(no pun)

Thanks for your input sam, but I think people reading this should be aware that if you let it get to the point where you are at the police station you are F%$#@d.

it depends where you are, if you are in the tourist areas then yeah you will have the book thrown at you. I live in Ratchaburi and have bought weed plenty of times from girlfriends mates who are your regular reggae kind lol. kilo 4000 baht. I know people who have been caught with weed around here and police dont give a crap. there was a motorshow here the other week police all around every one walkin past the police with spliffs in there hand.

Also note, my girlfriends cousin was caught selling yaba, was sentanced to over 50 years in prison, not half setnace for being good or nothing. over 50 years purely in prison. He has 3 great young kids here he is missing out on.

i found thai weed to be of very low quality, if you want to smoke, go to cambodia.
love your blog guy, just spent a few hours reading up for my next trip to thailand in a few weeks. cheers mate

    • Chris July 2, 2014 at 11:53 am #

As the owner of the blog I can only suggest you not do any drugs in Thailand if at all. But I have friends who smoke weed etc they all complain about the Thai stuff. Loas is supposedly the cheapest and best weed in the region, I heard good stuff about Cambodia but apparently it’s mostly shit and you have to kinda know someone to get the good stuff. Thanks for reading mate

      • kim March 2, 2015 at 5:07 pm #

everyone says it is low grade, but I disagree.I smoked thai sticks in the 70s,and obviously, world quality has improved a lot,but I think it is probably same as those sticks, but obviously not packed as such.I am interested in geography, topography, and it’s effect on quality.Obviously, the higher above sea level,up to a point,is a way to judge quality in India and Nepal, but with Thailand being quite low, with little change in light over the year makes it unusual

        • Alex October 31, 2017 at 7:48 pm #

No Thai sticks now that was the 70’s. Now it is just commercial grade and not strong. Laos and Cambodia the same. I live here.

Pai is about 3 hours north of Chiang Mai, and no where near

  8. Thaifriend August 16, 2015 at 10:29 am #

    Alot weed

  9. chris December 12, 2015 at 2:12 am #

Smoke in the south, koh tao and tonsai, very strong and very relaxed. Although the first bit i picked up i completely shat myself as it was just after the murders of two young brits on koh tao and the police were rife. so i taped it to the inside of my front mudguard on my scooter and sped home. blew my fucking head off. Pai is hit and miss. the ladies on the farm in the north area of pai who jump infront of you and stop u in the streeet shouting OPIUM GANJA, their weed is shit. dont know about their opium though lol. but have found good stuff in pai recently. always look for the more compressed stuff with a bit of sponginess/oiliness to it. bushy bags are a complete waste of money. And stash it VERY well. and dont smoke it if you plan to go on long trips where you may go through military checkpoints as i have heard many stories of them piss testing you and arrest you for a positive weed result.

Who are you people? Have you even been to Thailand?

Weed is EVERYWHERE and easily available without fear of being busted by police.

Pai, anywhere starting with Koh, even Bangkok, it takes minutes to find stuff.

After over 20 years of visiting thailand I’ve never been in a position of police intervention.

I’ve smoked throughout Thailand and never once had an issue. The islands are great for it and have virtually no police presence. My wife and I would hit the beach in Koh Lanta every night and would smoke a couple joints while watching the sunset. I regularly smoked in the sois in Chiang Mai off Loi Kroh Road (just keep out of sight). Safest place will always be your hotel or apartment.

I’ve bought weed in Chiang Mai, Pai, Bangkok, Surat Thani, Krabi, Hat Yai and pretty much every island I’ve ever visited. You only risk getting busted if you’re fucking retarded. Not buying from tuk tuk drivers is a great start, that’s asking to get set up. Buy from rasta bars, ask expats or if you’re on the islands ask your guest house.

Can you advice which part of Haadyai that I can get some as I’m going there early next month

  14. Pablo July 18, 2016 at 10:57 pm #

Don’t be ignorant and just tell stories you have heard. By law, the only thing that happens if you get caught with weed, is a 10 000 baht $300 used fine if you take it to the court. As long as it is possession and not trafficking.
Even for trafficking, if you have money and don’t let it get big, you will be out in no time.
I got a French friend got selling cocaine, spent 6 months in jail and now he is in Paris, less than two years later. Don’t trip, not all the drugs are the same.

I’m right now on Koh Samet.
    No Rasta or Reggea Bars…
    Has any one a tip?
The last one I saw was in Pattaya.
    Thank for help.

    • Sparkymeup September 16, 2018 at 1:04 pm #

I smoked all through Asia over the past 20 years no problem. I bought joints from restaraunts on Koh Samet main beach, that was in 2001. Look for restaraunts with young male workers. Talk to them and they’ll eventually offer if they think you’re keen.

In Koh Lipe, its low season and we asked a guy for a weed last night and he looked at us a bit funny. Any hints or tips on where to get some weed on this beautiful island?

    Thank you Erin 🙂

  20. BC July 24, 2017 at 12:53 pm #

Like most of the posts, just be smart and cautious. I have been in Thailand for a month now. Don’t even try in Bangkok as the locals and the police are looking to rip off tourists. Just left Koh Tao and Koh Phangan and was able to pick up some joints at both. All I did was go up to the bar, order a beer, and said joint, and I was hooked up. In Koh Tao, I went to High Bar. In Koh Phangan, I went to Amsterdam bar. High bar had an edgier vibe, so I picked up, and scooted back to my bungalow. As for Amsterdam bar, the vibe was friendly and relaxed, so I spent hours laying, smoking, and soaking up the amazing views. In Koh Samui, and I have yet to try to look. Head back in a couple of days, so I’m done until I get back to the States. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Lived in Phuket 10 years and I have bought weed everywhere in Thailand, never ever nothing happened.
Yes if the police catch you, and you don’t have $500 for the bribe, you will be in trouble like anywhere else.
This doesn’t apply if you are European or American, normally very scared of police in foreign countries, my advice for you is stay in your countries.
Everyone else come and enjoy the good weed!!

You can buy weed anywhere in Thailand if you do not tell to the seller where you sleep 🙂
